Required level to take the entrance exams

Excellent commands of Mathematics and/or Physics are keys to success: see a list of recommended knowledge in Mathematics and in Physics [PDF - 90 Ko].

Entrance exams consist of an admissibility on your academic file, 3 oral examinations in mathematics, physics and general scientific knowledge and 2 written exams in maths [PDF - 185 Ko] and physics. [PDF - 353 Ko]

Oral examinations consist of solving 1 or 2 questions in Mathematics and Physics, and to comment on a scientific article published in a major international journal: here some examples of sample problems.

Admission becomes finalized after the student has passed an official French language test. This test takes place during the Core Curriculum, during the student's 1st year at Ecole Polytechnique, and is organized at Ecole Polytechnique by a specialized institution whose standards are officially recognized by the General Director of Ecole Polytechnique.

In case a candidate does not attain the required minimum score, he or she may be granted an official decision to retake the test before the end of the 1st year of studies. In case of failure, he/she is definitively crossed off the students' list.

French-speaking candidates may be exempt from the test.
